PAPER CUTTINGS
Papercutting is the art form of cutting paper designs with sharp scissors or a knife and sometimes with the aid of a cutting machine like a circut. Designs can range from the simple to the intricate but all are delicate in their silhouettes. Paper cutting is an art form with a long history, with origins dating back to the 4th century after the invention of the paper by the Chinese. Today it is as popular as ever with stunning designs in both three dimension and two dimensional hitting the art scene.
I computer draw and layout my designs before useing a blend of hand cut and machine cut techniques to create my artworks, some of the more delicate artwork have to be hand cut to get the detail and fine lines and I do like the more natural cut lines for certain designs rather than the accurate straight lines formed by a machine, as they add an element of handmade to them.
